Finca La Amistad

Grower: Roberto Montero

Roberto Montero and his family have owned and operated Hacienda La Amistad in Costa Rica for generations. Their commitment to preserving the land and producing coffee in a way that supports and sustains the region is why we have chosen them as our first featured farm at Sunline Roasting.

Not only is Roberto committed to caring for the environment, but he has also donated portions of the land back to the nation as protected land. He continues to support his workers with fair wages and programs that allow them to establish roots and provide generationally for their families.

What does regenerative mean?

Regenerative Organic Certified™ is a certification standard for coffee that's based on the USDA Certified Organic standard but adds criteria for soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness. In other words, wholly organic.

All of the farms we choose to support practice regenerative agriculture.

While not all of them hold the strict ROC™ certification, we have found that they need support from roasters like us anyways. It is clear in our research that the certification takes years of hard work and dedication to achieve, so we choose to support farms that are on their way to holding the certification as well as those who have already achieved it.

  • Sourcing

We exclusively source regenerative coffees to ensure that we are contributing to the betterment of the farms that grow the coffee and the communities surrounding them.

  • Roasting

We know that it takes just one careless moment to alter the flavor profile of coffee in the wrong direction. We carefully roast all of our coffee in small-batches to ensure that we stay committed to quality.

  • Packaging

We use 100% sustainable packaging so that we do not contribute to the destruction of our land and communities. In this way, we stay true to our regenerative mission.
